houses-of-parliament.jpg It is becoming increasingly likely that the UK’s ‘esteemed leader’ is about to call an election. Personally, my instinct still says Brown would rather not, but pressure may be getting to him.
Labour will undoubtedly win this election, but what is at risk is their majority in Parliament. If this goes, then Brown becomes a ‘lame duck’ Prime Minister, allowing the Tories to chip away at his authority and maybe force an election a year or two down the road.
However, providing there IS an election this autumn, the above process will not happen if the Tories – and David Cameron in particular – do not star at this week’s Tory Conference, thus allowing the Labour majority to go in an election.
At one time I had hopes for Cameron, not so much as a great politician, but as a good publicity man. Of late, that confidence has declined. This week is make or break time for him – and the last best hope of saving the Conservative Party from decades of obscurity.
